At the Winery
Winery
After selling their previous winery T'Gallant in 2003, pioneers of Australian Pinot Grigio Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy founded Quealy. In 2019 they passed the role of head winemaker to their son Tom.
Located on the Mornington Peninsula, Quealy's landscape of close, intimate valleys and ocean influence are ideal for Pinot Gris, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir. The cool climate and grey skies conserve the fruit's natural acidity and allow it to fully develop. Yet the many hours of cloud cover also increase the importance of sunshine: come spring, Quealy performs vigorous pruning and shoot selection to wash the fruit with sunlight.
The Quealy name is synonymous with Australian Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris. Single vineyard expressions from their Musk Creek and Tussie Mussie sites lead. The Seventeen Rows Pinot Noir is also of note.
